Limited Release — Ord Valley Corn & Sorghum Whiskey – Sold Out

(4 customer reviews)

$146.00

700mL bottle – 45.1% alc/vol

Genuine paddock to palate — this Corn & Sorghum Whiskey is a unique mash of grains grown right here on our family farm, just behind the Hoochery Distillery. For years we’ve been growing seeds for our customers, all the while thinking, one day it’d be great to make something out of these grains for ourselves. Well, the day has come, and we’ve not only made something, but something quite special that we’ve never even seen before either.

An ancient grain, sorghum is naturally gluten-free, native to Australia and Africa, a highly sustainable crop, and something civilizations have been fermenting into many different kinds of liquor for centuries now. Whilst it might seem like the new kid on the block in the distilling world, it’s actually been around a lot longer than we typically give it credit for, just rarely as a whiskey, and certainly never as a whiskey made in Australia before. Corn by contrast, is an old favorite in distilling, and often used in the production of delicious American style bourbon whiskey.

With each spirit separately barrel-aged, then uniquely blended together, the resulting Corn & Sorghum Whiskey is something a little old world, meets something a little new world. A rich, creamy whiskey with notes of toffee, vanilla and flavors expressive of our provenance.

The first product in our Limited Release series, we only have 813 bottles of this whiskey available. Once they’re gone, then they’re gone forever.

A very surprising dram. My first instinct was ‘bourbon’(likely due to rum casks) but then it became ‘rye’ once I added a little bit of water. Very refreshing and malty.

    Classy drop

So smooth on the pallet –
    so rough on the wallet.
    Matches the best in roundness.

    Reminds me of...

Very nice drop, did a ‘blind’ tasting with a friend, his first comment was “reminds me a little of,” and points to a bottle on his shelf, a 2008 release, Samuel B. Whiskey, from the Hoochery. Had good comments from another friend who is very much into spirits, contacted me some time after to find where it was from.

This whiskey is amazing and dangerously good to keep drinking. Can’t wait until it’s back in stock and a really decent price compared to some of the Limeburners stuff.
