Every now and then, cleaning can actually be a rewarding experience. On this occasion, we found 150 bottles of our 2015 charcoal filtered batch of Premium Ord River Rum. Crikey! This wasn’t just an old batch sleeping away, but this was a particularly special batch. Spike thought it tasted so good out of the barrel that he just decided to charcoal filter this one. Something we’ve previously only ever done on our highly awarded Ord River Rum Overproof.
Charcoal-filtered spirits are common in some industries, such as the production of Tennessee Whiskey, but not so common in other industries like in rum production. It cleans things up, takes out some of the impurities, lightens the colour, and makes things just a little bit smoother on the palate. Spike just felt like doing things a bit different. Rum made his way. He’d always intended to give it away to mates but never got around to it.
Re-corked and rewaxed but kept in the old green bottles with the old labels. We’re ready to let this one into the wild now. We’ve only got 168 bottles of this one. Once it’s gone, it’s gone forever.

The charcoal filtered underproof edition. Somewhat different to the regular 3 year old Ord River rum. Vanillary and smokey, I assume from the charcoal filtering, very smooth, it slips down easily. I gave it 4 stars out of 5 as I do like a bit of a burn on the way down. Great to see the old crocodile label and green bottle.

HI Simon,
Glad to hear you enjoy this throw back to the old days with a little twist. The charcoal filtering does take out a bit of the flavour with the bite but hopefully the silky smooth makes up for it. Spike (our founder) loved his old crocodile logo so it was nice to see it back in action for a bit.
